INK had our first meeting of the year last night, and biggest news of the night was welcoming Cheri to our little kult. We didn't seem to scare her off, so hopefully we'll see her again. We had a rousing critique of Steve's flash fiction "Baggage" and my flash fiction "Purgatory" following our newly established five-minute critique rule. I'm still struggling with that, personally, but I promise the other members that I'll get better!
Kami arrived a bit late, but in plenty of time to add her own excellent critiques. We had lovely chocolate custard compliments of Carole. We also decided on writing bios for the new INK FAQ page and continuing the FAQ-building process over the next three weeks.
A good start to the new year, I think! I'm looking forward to the next meeting and Kami's next Masks excerpt.
Psst, fellow kultists, remember to update your monthly goals under your blog pic!

So what is this flash fiction of which you speak? A very short piece? A short piece written really quickly? Both? Neither?
Flash fiction is a complete story (character, conflict, climax, resolution) in 1,000 words or less. Though some definitions give it between 1,000 and 2,000 words. Steve's piece was only 600 words. Mine was not quite 1,100.
It's a fun type of story to attempt. Made me much more aware of the words I'm using, since they are so limited. Pity I didn't quite pull it off, but I'll keep working on the story.
Thank you for allowing me to join ya'll at the INK meeting. I thoroughly enjoyed the food, the writerly atmosphere, the solid critiques, and just having the opportunity to talk shop, which is something I can't stop doing even if I wanted to.
Thank you again INK members, and I hope to join you again at your February meeting!

I'm looking forward to you joining us again in February, too, Cherie! I'm glad we didn't scare you off.
And I know about not being able to stop talking shop. I keep enough blogs about it.
Cheers!
